We start this adventure with the first famous storybook in the series –  Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. This book was chosen to appeal to both younger and older students who participate in distinctly different levels of classroom activities. Your dedicated teachers can facilitate these Step-by-Step Scripted e-Lessons with our guidance. This storybook module will cover eight 60 minute sub-modules that are divided into thirty two 15 minute lessons. Each lesson will explore a few storybook pages per lesson and the sequence will flow as below: i) Plan – Welcome and Warm-Up, ii) Prepare – Circle Talk and Skills Building, iii) Practice – Storytime, Music & Movement and Dramatic Play, and iv) Perform – Story Wrap-Up and Sequencing, Assessment and Goodbye.

This storybook module enables users to introduce children the book, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crocket Johnson. As Harold journeys on his path and goes on his adventures, children learn and discover new things. They get varied opportunities to imagine, explore and share their ideas. Every lesson will use ACTs of life’s proven educational structure – the 4 P’s – Plan, Prepare, Practice and Perform, it encourages and heightens each child’s learning process in English Speech & Drama classes.

The four 15 minute lesson segments always follow this sequence throughout the 8 sub-modules of the storybook module – Harold and the Purple Crayon:
i) Plan – Welcome and Warm-Up, ii) Prepare – Circle Talk and Skills Building, iii) Practice – Storytime, Music & Movement and Dramatic Play, and iv) Perform – Story Wrap-Up and Sequencing, Assessment and Goodbye.

Users will be able to focus and aim to help young children:
to become more verbal and discover alternative communication strategies
to stimulate expressive ability and project one’s voice
to develop verbal skills through discussions of curriculum topics and new vocabulary use
• to nurture growth of English language skills.

Welcome and Warm-Up lessons will contain educational audio tracks that teach greetings & self-Introduction, pronunciation, naming body parts, transportation, spatial awareness, and more….

Circle Talk and Skills Building lessons provide a digital e-artbook to enjoy. For example, Harold and the Purple Crayon is paired with The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This book teaches children that even “a little speck can turn into something, with a little bit of imagination, creativity and perseverance”.

Storytime, Music & Movement and Dramatic Play lessons include interactive, educational audio tracks, Storytime Summary Flashcards, and digital canvas and pens to recreate the drawings from the book. These ground children’s interest and active participation for our activities. Our systematic extension from story to dramatic play is done with 3 storytime flashcards directly from the storybook pages each week that are discussed and imaginatively acted out.

Story Wrap-Up and Sequencing, Assessment and Goodbye lessons will explore the storytime flashcards which guide story review and sequencing. A summary poster is used at the end of the storybook for children to recall and narrate in their own words the whole story sequence, thus demonstrating self-confidence and improved English speech.
